Skull

Skull

There is a skull
A gruesome thing
They say it once belonged to you
It's on display
encased in glass
for every passer-by to view
This morbid thing
This shell of man
Made fall, an unexpected tear
I thought about
who loved you, skull
Before they came and put you here
A human skull,
Whose burial
Society would not afford
Was once a babe
In mother's arms
Was once a child
was once adored
Forgive them, skull
They have no shame
They've left you here, for all to see
Dark portals, where
there once were eyes
Stare out, into eternity.
